The first photovoltaic system

In 1966, monocrystalline solar cells with a power of 225 watts were installed for the first time in the
Ogami Island Lighthouse, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan; At that time that action was a scientific event, the world had discovered how to generate energy from the Sun.
By this time, the lighthouse had a keeper, and a Japanese Coast Guard patrol boat was required to visit it regularly to deliver food and fuel for the diesel power generator. The installation of solar cells and batteries meant that the lighthouse could work autonomously. Thus begins the development of photovoltaic technology that would provide constant operation despite harsh conditions, such as cloudy skies, large waves and gusts of wind.
