When you work installing solar panels outdoors, up on a roof of a house, shed or on land, you give yourself the opportunity to observe many sunsets and phenomena associated with them. One of these the "pileus" clouds, or rainbow clouds. Very pleased when the opportunity presents itself.
The “pileus” clouds, which means “cup” in Latin, in honor of their resemblance, is a climatological phenomenon that occurs at sunset where light rays pass through the cloud and we can see the full range of colors of the rainbow. Also, they usually adopt the reflections or colors of a sunset.
They occur as a result of the effect produced by rising currents of moist air coming from low latitudes. When the air is cooled below its dew point, that's when they appear. We must always be vigilant because those unusual stripes on the pileus cloud could indicate that a storm is approaching.
